City of Fort Worth’s Mayor Mattie Parker and Fort Worth Hispanic Chamber of Commerce Executive Director Anette Landeros will discuss the ASP panel's conclusions and recommendations regarding a suggested path forward to meet the community's needs. The panel’s interviews with community stakeholders were vital to developing insights that will shape actionable recommendations for the development of Panther Island and its neighboring communities.
Panther Island represents a once-in-a-generation opportunity for Fort Worth to amplify the energy of its urban core and surrounding neighborhoods. The project encompasses approximately 330 acres of underutilized public and private land within the city’s core and offers the chance to create meaningful physical and community connections between some of Fort Worth’s most vibrant areas. Given the city’s rapid population growth—surging by 24% from 2010 to 2020—Panther Island will serve as a critical new development ground.
The planned redevelopment of Panther Island into a high-density, walkable, mixed-use district is an exciting prospect for Fort Worth, but it also raises reasonable concerns about its potential effects on surrounding areas. During the Panther Island Vision 2.0 community engagement process, residents expressed concerns about possible displacement of existing businesses and residents and the risk that future development might provide inequitable benefits.
The ULI Advisory Services Panel was uniquely qualified to provide recommendations and actionable strategies to address these concerns. Leveraging national expertise, acknowledged best practices, and real-world experience in urban development, the panel’s work will help ensure that Panther Island’s growth is inclusive, equitable, and beneficial to all stakeholders.
The ASP panel was supported by a wide range of sponsors and partners, including the Fort Worth Hispanic Chamber of Commerce, the City of Fort Worth, the ULI Dallas-Fort Worth District Council, the ULI Foundation, the North Texas Community Foundation, the Rainwater Charitable Foundation, and the Amon G. Carter Foundation.
