It is with great sadness that we announce the sudden passing of one of San Antonio’s great leaders in the development community — Dan Markson, President/CEO of The NRP Group.
Dan Markson was an outstanding member of our real estate community, a true civic statesman and a devout member of our Jewish faith community. Dan passed away unexpectedly in his home on Saturday. His loss will reverberate in our city for many years to come. In his career, Dan was responsible for the production of as many affordable housing units in our city as anybody that I am aware of. He was also responsible for so many more market rate units as well. He was innovative in his approach to the capital markets and was willing to work as hard as anybody I knew to get a deal over the finish line. If you were ever fortunate enough to have been invited into his historic Monte Vista home you also knew what a gracious and complete host he always was. His hospitality and attention to detail were of the first class. He cared about our community so much and about people as well. One of Dan’s great passions was his commitment to finding the Jewish ancestral heritage of the many descendants who immigrated to North America during dangerous times abroad and settled in Nuevo León, Mexico. He firmly believes that so many of these Jews converted to Christianity but still have memories and traditions dating back to their ancestors’ original heritage. I hope that someday his vision and dream will be realized and that some of those folks may be able to reconnect with their history.
